With the end of the sailing season of 2018 it is time for some intensive care of The Dream, after all our yacht has just turned 5 years old, 2 of them already in our possession, and although we do care for The Dream on a regular basis the reality is that while we are travelling not all areas get the full attention they deserve.
So our 6 month in Tunisia is the perfect opportunity to show that love and to care for it, going through a major cleaning job and servicing tasks, luckily the repair list is small and mostly related to cosmetic issues, but still a lot to be inspected.
Below is a summary of the jobs in hands, and this list may be updated as we go through our inspections and works.
Stainless steel works
- Stanchions - clean, polish and re-bed to deck
- Pushpit - clean and polish
- Pulpit- clean, polish, re-bed to the deck, reinforce deck structure
- Clean and polish Bimini frame and supports
- Clean and polish bow roller and associated fittings
- Clean cable stay bases and provide rust inhibitor (remove rust stains - refer to fibreglass works)
- Remove clean and refit bbq hinges, provide rust inhibitor (remove rust stains - refer to fibreglass works)
- Remove clean and refit deck ladder supports, provide additional fibreglass in support screw holes
- Remove and clean front locker hinges, repair fibreglass surround, provide rust inhibitor (remove rust stains - refer to fibreglass works)
- Consider additional rail support and possible seat design in teak refer teak works.
- New helm bars and cup holders mountings to helm base
- New stainless steel/acrylic solar panel supports. Design to be considered
- Reinforcing for Bimini structure for the solar panels upgrade
- Additional lifeline fixing points in the cockpit
Fibreglass repairs
- Gel coat repair to back corner points
- Gel coat repair in the cockpit at sprayhood base
- Gel coat repair to general areas (punch list needed - scratches, dents, rub marks) on deck and broadsides including bow
- Gel coat repair on back platform sides
- Remove spot rust stains throughout deck zone and sideboards and clean
- Consider hairline cracks around deck and possible patching and refinish
- Clean and prepare back hull deck joint and recaulk
- Buff and polish broadsides with Rupes buffing system.
Teak works
- Dingy support frame front and back, mount system to the deck
- Scrub with a brush all the teak decking and rails till clean using salt water and fresh water rinse
- Teak entry side rails
- Teak swim ladder steps
- Teak support box to the front of centre cockpit table
- Teak bow seat
- Consider making the cockpit sink lid in two hinged pieces
Dingy works
- Repair port side tubes air leak
- Fix damaged covers
- Clean dingy and check hull - repair as required
- Make padded seat covers
- Consider bow section flooring for puppy
- Motor clean inside and out
- Remove fuel from the engine
- Oil change
- Grease and oil fittings
Hull/underwater
- Antifoul clean or repaint
- Sail drive and propeller clean
- Replace anodes
- Check rust bulb on the keel
Deck hardware
- Tighten and clean all stanchions rings
- Service winches and jammers
- Tighten deck cleats
- Service travellers dismantle clean, oil and reassemble
- Backstay anchor points require caulking at deck joint to ensure watertight
Running rigging
- Deck lines all soaked in fresh water and softener till clean roll and pack
- Remove all unused lines and mouse where possible
- Install new Genoa halyards
- Install new furling line for Genoa
- Add restraint line for furling line to ensure it doesn’t get caught on the windlass
- Review boom topping lift configuration and install new Dyneema line with the line into blocks and jammers
- Fix flag ropes repair or replace lines
Interiors
- Clean all hatches inside and out, lubricate hinges and clean hold rods
- Clean all blinds
- Wipe down all internal woodwork, protect
- Wash all cushion covers
- Clean all bilges, vacuum and wipe clean
- Construct new shelves and dividers in the kitchen and bedrooms
- Clean all carpets
- Redesign main bathroom countertop shelve unit
Sails/standing rigging
- Mast check and cable stay clean
- Remove Genoa and store clean track and furling assembly
- Clean cable stay and provide rust inhibitor (remove rust stains - refer to fibreglass works)
- Repair Genoa
Anchor
- Clean and inspect windlass check gipsy
- Clean chain locker
- Review chain counter markers and replace as required
- Rinse chain with fresh water ensure all salt is removed
- Inspect and grease Mantus swivel
- Swap bolts on mantus anchor misplacement
Engine Dougie
- fuel filter change, both filters
- Coolant change, five-year change
- Grease all movement points
- Disassemble exhaust and check SS works ensure no corrosion
- Clean under exhaust inside Hull
- Top up oil confirm next programmed oil change
- Remove and clean air filter
- Check engine anode and verify if it needs replacing
- Check sail drive oil levels top up as required
- Reorganise exhaust vent locations and build isolation frame
Outdoor fabrics/covers/cushions
- New sprayhood front cover with Velcro adhesion strips
- New deck wing covers from existing cover materials and add connection points
- New cushions to design intent
- Fix bottom trims of Bimini side covers and add additional bracing straps
- Additional seats for the helm stations
Electrical
- Battery space clean and battery voltage check
- Additional red night light in the cockpit
- Additional warm white night light in the cockpit
- Additional red night light in the salon, in the same location as existing warm white LED strips (floor light and ceiling light)
- Replace existing warm white LED strips in the salon (floor light and ceiling light)
- Additional warm white night light in the galley connected to the same grid as the salon (floor light and under cupboard light)
- Additional warm white night light in the bedroom
- Fix radio connection to the antenna
- Check and fix speaker wires behind the radio
- Clean up and tidy wiring behind nav station
Fridges
- Insulate cold wiring at freezer unit
- Build additional insulation box for freezer
- Further, insulate the main fridge and inspect for additional temperature bridges
- Additional insulation box for the outdoor fridge
Others
- Construct new floor in rear locker to level floor with marine plywood
- Clean Hydrovane and remove re-antifoul the rudder ready for next season. Check bolts and backing plate for security
- Additional support for rear fold down seats on the stern
- Clean bbq tray, drain bucket, plate cover and inspect all fittings
- Service and inspect steering system and cable work, lubricate wheels etc.
- Review back platform support method and reinstall as required
- Clean all windows, clean caulking of mould polish windows
